Why This Role Is Important to Us

This position is integral to the success of not only the Finance team but the company as a whole. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Finance, this individual will be critical in supporting our sales and partnerships teams, determining our partner’s risk factors and helping establish different coverage types. This role will help shape the future of the Group portfolio, providing strategic recommendations on optimization and growth.


This role isn’t your conventional underwriter position. Instead, it breaks the mold by embracing a fresh and innovative approach to risk assessment and management. At Spot, we’re all about challenging norms and redefining expectations in the insurance industry, making this opportunity anything but traditional.


Responsibilities

  • Act as the point of contact between Spot sales and partnership teams and Carrier underwriting teams
  • Review all new business quote requests, share perspective on customer pricing that meets financial targets, and provide technical underwriting assistance to the sales team
  • Take proactive measures to address renewals efficiently and offer valuable insights and perspective on strategies and forward-looking approaches
  • Think critically about customer situations and be a habitual problem solver in helping groups better provide value to their end customers through Spot group policies
  • Deliver strategic ideas and solutions to innovate on how group is considered today vs. “tomorrow”
  • Maintain strong industry knowledge on Accident & Health (specifically AME) underwriting expertise and new trends
  • Conduct thorough analysis of various insurance programs and product performance (projections vs actual bookings and premium collected) 
  • Provide actionable insights to enhance the performance and effectiveness of insurance offerings
  • Collaborate with the team to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization


Who You Are

  • 2-3 years of insurance experience, preferably underwriting in A&H and group.
  • Experienced with data analysis and Excel
  • A tech-savvy individual with a forward-thinking mindset, adept at utilizing carrier portals to extract and analyze data
  • Comfortable navigating technological platforms to gather essential information for analysis
  • Creative minded with a willingness to think outside of the box
  • Self starter but someone who enjoys collaboration and teamwork
  • Possesses the resilience and flexibility to operate effectively in highly ambiguous circumstances
  • Effective communicator who can easily communicate complex analysis, solutions, limits, and options to non-insurance professionals
  • Analyzing data comes easy to you, you can slice and dice it 


A Typical Day Looks Like

  • Working with sales and partnership teams to think about the risk dynamics of a group partner 
  • Analyze and audit experience data to provide pricing / plan optimizations and future policy decisions within a category
  • Own external communications with insurance partners through policy quoting and alignment
  • Brainstorm new data sets that may be valuable to underwriting group risk
