Overview

As a Staff Engineer at Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG), you will be a technical leader who can grow and scale engineering teams. In this role, you will work as a back-end engineer with the OddsFactory team. Here you will be responsible for architecting, designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining the ecosystem which provides Fanatics Betting and Gaming with the capabilities to offer an industry leading sports betting product. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team or teams that develops, tests, documents, and deploys high quality software into production, leading the delivery of solutions that are extensible and scalable
  • Clarify requirements and assists with coding/story estimates
  • Participate in the on-call rotation when needed to troubleshoot software issues
  • Quickly identify when to troubleshoot or escalate when tasks or projects hit roadblocks, find a path forward in difficult situations
  • Mitigate immediate risk, identify and resolve root causes 
  • Remove bottlenecks and makes technical and design approach trade-off decisions short term vs long-term
  • Contribute to team planning and design discussions, building more expertise around design approaches, driving best practices and improving the speed of delivery
  • Lead code reviews to provide constructive direction
  • Proactively simplifies code and resolves team architecture deficiencies
  • Impact software architecture, dependencies, performance, and business value
  • Improve testability, operational excellence metrics, and team documentation
  • Advise technology leaders, our product team, and other internal stakeholders to make technology decisions that grow and improve our products
  • Mentor and coach other engineers and actively work to reduce onboarding burden of future team members
  • Influence your team’s adherence to the principles, guidelines, and best practices of our engineering strategy
  • Develop a solid understanding of our industry, product, feature set and roadmap
  • Remain current on the latest technologies and trends in software development
  • Must be open to occasional travel to Fanatics Betting & Gaming offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities
  • Engage with customers, stakeholders, and team members to develop projects and features that meet both customer needs and team goals effectively.
  • Demonstrate mastery in .NET technologies, adhering to and advocating for industry-leading practices, patterns, and standards.
  • Share your knowledge and expertise acting as a mentor to other developers, fostering an environment of growth and continuous improvement.
  • Be willing to travel occasionally for special events and to Bet Fanatics offices for essential offsite meetings and team collaboration sessions. 


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years real-world demonstrable experience building & deploying scalable, high-performance applications.
  • Deep understanding of coding practices (SRP, DRY, decoupling, TDD, BDD).
  • Development background working with cloud platforms (Azure a plus), C# and SQL/NoSQL persistence solutions.
  • A firm understanding of software design, development, and testing best practices.
  • Passion for software development and system architecture and sharing knowledge within a highly collaborative team


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand business outcomes and drive technical solutions to help achieve our goals.
  • Experience in partnering with cross-functional teams (PM, Design, DevOps, Security, Front-end engineers).
  • Passionate about working in a highly collaborative team environment
