Who We Are
Float is the world’s leading software for teams to plan their time. Founded in 2012, we are a proud, independent, and self-funded company that has grown every year. Our mission is to help every organization plan their work time better.
As a certified B Corporation, we’re committed to making a positive contribution to our team, customers, the environment, and the remote community. We’re a team of 50 working 100% remotely who believe in living our Best Work Life. You’ll partner with team members globally, including Australia, Mexico, Italy, Nigeria, Canada, and the USA. We’re on a scale-up journey, and we’re seeking people who thrive in this stage, given the autonomy and the opportunity to do the best work of their career.
Why We’re Hiring For This Role
Mid-market teams (101 to 1,000 people) are our fastest-growing customer segment, and we’re the leading solution to serve their resource planning needs. We’re voted the #1 most popular tool for resource management software on G2 and chosen by 4,500+ of the world’s top teams, including Atlassian, Edisen agency, AirBnB, and Deloitte.
Currently, we’re developing game-changing project planning features to help teams visually scenario plan their projects, meaning they can ditch the chaotic spreadsheet—that’s designed for data, not people. Float is one of the few tools purpose-built for “the role,” aka those with the job titles of resource manager, program manager, operations manager, and creative ops. Resource management is a category with low awareness and yet many folks unknowingly do this job!
As our Senior Product Marketer, you’ll play a crucial role in leading our product positioning and by developing messaging that differentiates Float from other tools in the market and wins the head 🧠, heart ❤️, and subscription 💳 of our ICP. ****
We’re looking for someone who’s an excellent communicator, a strategic thinker, and seeks to be the person closest to knowing and understanding our ICP. This role suits someone who thrives on being hands-on and is comfortable working in a lean, high-performing team.
Having some familiarity with our resource management category is a bonus, and it’s critical that the problem space resonates with this person. Why? Because you’ll be the driver of defining the value prop of our product and creating FOMO so that every people planner wants to plan with Float!
Who You’ll Work Closely With
Right now we’re a five-person marketing team across content and growth marketing. Initially, you’ll be the sole person to take on our product marketing function.
- Content Marketing: Fio and Stella, our content marketing team members, are focused on creating product-led content that helps more project teams realize the value of a resource management tool. They’re excited to partner with this role to better communicate the value of planning in Float and build a strong product narrative. Our new Managing Editor starts in May.
- Growth Marketing: Our Senior Growth Marketer, Andrew, is ready for a product marketer to add more customer insights to our ICP and be the advocate for their needs.
- Customer Success: Our growing customer success team, led by Emily, is eager to have their product knowledge translated into self-serve education content for customers.
- Product Marketing handoff: You’ll be supported by and report to our Director of Marketing, Siobhan. She is keen to hand the reigns of our product marketing communications—to someone who’s best-in-class for product marketing!
You’ll work asynchronously with a bright, dedicated team from across the globe, with a strong focus on taking complex problems and creating simple and intuitive solutions for our customers.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Early on, you’ll be hands-on with taking ownership of our product marketing communication and defining the value prop of Float for our ICP. In the first three months you can expect to:
- Develop and manage the communication of upcoming new feature launches: This involves consulting with the product team to understand the value prop of each release, partnering with Siobhan to align on the narrative, and working with the marketing team to create assets.
- Build on our Float ICP framework: With a wealth of data and insights to draw from, you’ll map this information to establish clearly defined and validated marketing personas and their use cases. These personas will be used to drive decisions across marketing and product growth. You’ll manage our annual customer reviews campaign as a hands-on way to learn how folks describe Float, in their words. And, of course, to ensure we capture enough new reviews to defend our position as the most popular tool for our category. 😉
- Conduct a thorough competitor analysis: You’ll receive a list of competitors, highlighting who potential customers are using or considering. Your role will be to research and evaluate our position relative to these competitors, specifically from a potential buyer’s perspective. This onboarding project will help you get to know our market quickly, collect firsthand insights that will shape our product’s unique messaging, and develop your ownership over competitive intelligence.
- Become the driver of aligning customer insights and competitor intel to inform marketing opportunities: We have several roles that are already dedicated to championing customer insights. Your role will be to align this feedback with competitive intel that we’ll use to inform our marketing activity and identify growth opportunities.
We’re looking for someone who thrives being the lead on execution in product marketing and with a growth mindset. We want Float to be where you do the best work of your career so far. Once you’re more settled into the role (post onboarding), we want to see you:
- Partner with product managers to identify the commercial opportunity of proposed new features, e.g., growth marketability, new MRR, retention, and sales win rate.
- Define and develop our product marketing email programs to re-engage lost leads, and win back paused and churned accounts.
- Work with the sales team and partner with the marketing team to develop enablement assets to increase the win rate of new deals.
- Contribute to experimenting with product-led brand marketing activations and campaigns that help us increase Float’s discoverability to our ICP, e.g., async and live events, training courses, and PR.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
We want you to love your work and believe that these skills will allow you to succeed in the role.
Applying these skills requires:
- Experience working as a hands-on product marketer in a communications-focused role at a high-growth (>$10M) SaaS company.
- Experience working in a high-performing, lean, and agile team. In other words, this position might not be for you if you’re used to working in a larger product marketing team.
- Excellent writing and marketing communication skills that are demonstrated in your product marketing portfolio of work (please include links in your CV!).
- Strong experience working with email and CRM software is essential as you’ll be the owner of our product newsletter and communications. Experience with lifecycle marketing would be a bonus!
- Strong analytical skills with the ability and desire to quantitatively define and measure success.
- A savvy grasp of product marketing trends with the technical proficiency and marketing skills to try new things quickly.
- A basic understanding of what resource management is and why a purpose-built tool is crucial for folks in planning roles.
As a fully remote team, we’re looking for someone comfortable with asynchronous communication as the default, which means you have previous remote experience and are comfortable using tools like Slack, Loom, and Linear to communicate as needed. Don’t worry—you will have significant deep work time since we have very few meetings.
