Planet Depos is a leading global court reporting company, offering top-tier court reporting, videography, videoconferencing, interpretation, and trial support services across the United States and internationally. Our primary focus is on providing court reporters for legal proceedings, where their duty is to create a verbatim record of the proceedings for use within the justice system.
About the Role
The company is in the process of building a software engineering department to leverage the latest advances in technology to build the best possible services for our customers. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a critical component of this mission.
You will work with the Product Manager and other team members to gather requirements, refine the vision, and ultimately design and develop a solution. You will be working with some of the best tools in the industry while leveraging best practices and processes.
You will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing new and updated software solutions for Planet Depos. You should have expert knowledge in building back and front-end web apps, TypeScript/JavaScript, and AWS cloud-native development.
Ideal candidates will have a track record of hands-on experience in developing, operating, and maintaining multiple production applications. They must have sufficient technical knowledge with cloud solutions and be able to communicate effectively to understand the problem and explain its solution. They must also be customer-oriented and composed to deal with demanding customers.
What You Will Do
- Design, develop, and maintain new software applications.
- Provide design and guidance for service-oriented software architecture.
- Provide guidance and support for existing software applications.
- Gather requirements and help break work down into actionable tasks.
- Troubleshoot and debug technical issues.
- Provide recommendations for best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and mentor internal and external junior/mid engineers.
Compensation:
$150,000 - $180,000 annually
Requirements
What You Will Bring
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in commercial software development.
- Advanced understanding of software systems, (service-oriented) architecture, and best practices.
- Expertise developing cloud-native software on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience with Agile/Scrum software methodology.
- Experience developing front- and back-end software, with TypeScript.
- Ability to diagnose and solve advanced technical issues.
- Ability to share information and communicate clearly with team members and internal customers.
- Attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A sense of ownership.
- A collaborative approach to software product development.

- Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript
