Join Pipeworks Studios and make your mark on the gaming industry as a Senior Environment Artist on an exciting, recently announced Unreal-based AAA project. The Lead Environment Artist may function as a direct contributor and/or lead on a project. This role includes mentoring junior designers, working independently, and collaborating with stakeholders, clients, and the Project Art Director to lead or directly contribute on projects in their environment design, modeling, and texturing needs for a variety of styles and platforms.
Day To Day
Responsibilities
- Create environments for individual projects, as needed
- Work with the Project Art Director to determine project requirements, then research, develop, and implement it in engine
- Research and stay up to date on current techniques and utilize most relevant processes for each task
- Work with design to determine level flow and how it pertains to environments
- Work closely with Technical Artist to develop new or improved techniques to improve quality and efficiency
- Work with other departments as needed
- Work independently and provide accurate time estimations for project planning
- Work effectively with other artists and engineers to achieve project goals
- Solve problems to the benefit of the project/team
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Must Haves
- Understanding of Maya and/or Max
- Unreal experience is required; familiarity with Unity is also preferred
- Ability to create environment textures within tools such as Substance Designer
- Ability to create or work off of environment concepts that are in various stages of completion
- Ability to consider suggestions and come up with creative solutions
- Understanding of what tasks fall to art vs. design
- Ability to keep a clear and consistent schedule
- Strong communication ability
- Provides accurate estimates for project planning
- Understanding of bug fixing and investigation
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Ability to use Zbrush
- Ability to provide FX
- Ability to whitebox levels
Education & Experience Required
- Any degree or certification in relevant field or equivalent work experience AND
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Prior experience leading or managing Environment Art teams preferred
Materials Required
Candidate should provide portfolio of art that they have created or directed and a resume detailing the projects/studios that they have been a part of. Depending on experience, there might be an art test needed
