About the Role

As the Director of Data Science, you’ll drive decision-making and strategy across the company through advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and a deep understanding of data.


Strategy Development:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with company objectives, driving innovation, and growth through data-driven insights.
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for various business functions.

Data Management and Governance:

  • Oversee the collection, storage, management, quality, and protection of data across the company, ensuring data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Implement and manage data governance practices and policies.

Advanced Analytics and Predictive Modeling:

  • Lead the development of predictive models and advanced analytics to uncover trends, forecast outcomes, and provide actionable insights that inform business strategies.
  • Communicate complex data in a clear, understandable manner to various stakeholders.

Personalized Customer Experiences:

  • Utilize data and analytics to segment customers and personalize shopping experiences, enhancing customer satisfaction, retention, and lifetime value.
  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to implement data-driven personalization strategies.

Team Leadership and Talent Development:

  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing data science team, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Develop career paths and provide professional development opportunities for team members.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with various departments, including marketing, sales, IT, and operations, integrating data science into company-wide initiatives.
  • Support decision-making across the company with data-driven insights and recommendations.

Research and Innovation:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data science, ensuring the company maintains a competitive edge through innovation.
  • Lead research initiatives that drive innovation in products, services, and internal processes.

Performance Analysis and Reporting:

  • Regularly analyze and report on the impact of data science initiatives, demonstrating their value and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure strategies and projects are grounded in data and deliver a measurable ROI.


  • Proven experience leading data science initiatives, with a focus on delivering real-world impact in an e-commerce environment.
  • Expertise in data modeling, machine learning algorithms, and advanced analytics.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and data management platforms.
  • A passion for leveraging data to drive business decisions and improve customer experiences.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person, over the telephone, and/or via video conference.

  • Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.

Emotional Demands:

  • Data analysis & interpretation. You will have to process and review a lot of information from a variety of sources, understand how data is collected, assess data quality, and how to use the information.
  • Communication skills. You need to have advanced communication skills in both oral and written form. Emails and written communication with colleagues and external partners, written reports for senior executives. Able to communicate complex financial information to people outside of the finance department.
  • Comfortable with technology. Able to navigate data through computers, mobile, software, databases. Stay up to date with technology advances.
  • Oriented to detail. Financial forecasts rely on projections which can be impacted by even minor changes in sales patterns, consumer sentiment, economic shifts, competitor changes, etc. You will need to be attuned to small changes in all streams of data.
  • Confident decision-making skills. You will need to review data and make sound decisions on what actions to take and make confident recommendations to senior management. You may need to make decisions quickly with limited amounts of information in urgent situations.
