Overview

The Scrum Master is primarily responsible for leading a dedicated self-organizing team to deliver functionality through development and quality assurance execution provided by subject matter experts. In addition, acts as a servant leader to the team, facilitates planning and team learning in the form of reviews and retrospectives. Continual review and adaptation of the process to ensure quality of team/solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Guides the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers
  • Guides the team on how to get the most of self-organization
  • Guides the team on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks
  • Assesses the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaches the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
  • Removes impediments or guides the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
  • Builds a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving
  • Facilitates getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assists with internal and external communication, improves transparency, and radiates information
  • Supports and educates the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog
  • Provides all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
  • Serves the Product Owner and Development Team in their quest to do everything possible to deliver and delight their customer(s)
  • Guides cross functional teams in executing the principles of the Scrum framework and working with non-scrum team(s) to ensure successful sprint execution
  • Facilitates discussions, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Provides support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
  • Removes impediments that prevent a team from completing the work it has negotiated for a given sprint
  • Works to identify and engage appropriate stakeholders for resolution
  • Works to continually improve transparency and radiate information
  • Facilitates the teams scrum ceremonies
  • Works closely with your product owner as the co-leaders of the scrum team
  • Coaches the organization on Agile principles and values

 

Qualifications

  • First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
  • Able to facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Able to facilitate discussion and drive to a decision
  • Team oriented; desire to win as a team
  • Creative; finding creative solutions to challenges and excited about learning as well as applying critical thinking

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Second level Scrum Master Certification (CSP, PSM II)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least two years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
  • Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team
  • - Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach(example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
  • Professional experience as a scrum master with a strong understanding of Agile principals and scrum values
  • A continuous delivery mindset
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • An entrepreneurial spirit
