Join the team at Outside as a Software Engineer III for the Gaia GPS iOS team. In this role, you will build software for some of the wildest adventures on earth and help people explore the backcountry with cutting-edge data and tools. You will work closely with our innovative team of iOS Developers. This team has recently shipped new features such as offline routing, turn-by-turn navigation, and CarPlay integration to our passionate users. We have extensive infrastructure based on open data, open-source frameworks, and open tools.

This position is 100% remote.


Responsibilities:

● Cracking some of the most complex spatial challenges in the iOS app ecosystem

● Expanding the Gaia GPS community and their ability to empower their peers

● Collaborating with the larger Outside engineering team to bring 40+ years of content to life

● Building applications that excel at streamlining data storage, battery life, and reliability

Qualifications:

● 4+ years experience in Swift, Objective-C, or C++ programming with developing high-quality production software.

● Sharpen your skills by reviewing your peers’ designs and code, and improve developer velocity by removing development roadblocks, increasing testability, and simplifying architecture.

● Join a growing team of software developers, notably by conducting code reviews and providing feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., process and style guidelines, testability, and efficiency).

● Experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques.

● Experience with multithreading programming and mobile memory management.

● Experience in API design, performance optimization, client architecture, and tools in the mobile space.

● Have a deep and up-to-date knowledge of iOS design principles and patterns

● Value being a great team player, mentor, and communicator in a diverse and distributed team.

● Experience in other parts of our Stack is a plus - Java, Kotlin, Javascript, React, Python, Django, NodeJS, Postgres, AWS, and Docker.
