We’re in growth mode and looking to add a dynamic Senior Engineering Manager to our PayNearMe team. This position will report to the VP, Engineering.


Job Description

Step into the role of Senior Engineering Manager and lead our engineering teams towards unmatched excellence! In this role, you’ll foster an environment where innovation, safety, and strategic risk-taking are daily norms. Your hands-on approach will solve critical technical challenges while guiding our strategic vision.


Collaborate closely with our finance and accounting teams to refine processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and protect our financial health. Partner with product and QA teams to define and achieve realistic, ambitious quarterly goals.

Qualifications

Here is what we need from you:

Team Leadership

  • Experience developing a high-performing engineering team, emphasizing a culture of psychological safety, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Expertise in agile and traditional project management methodologies, adept at tailoring approaches to challenge teams positively without leading to burnout (scrum master certification preferred).
  • Implement and innovate on SDLC best practices to enhance team engagement and productivity.
  • Actively work to develop the career of each team member, providing mentorship and goal setting.


Technical Skills

  • High proficiency in Ruby, Rails, Go, Docker, Kubernetes, and MySQL, with over 10 years of experience and a demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies.
  • Proven success in comprehending and documenting complex systems, willing to delve into code to understand features comprehensively.
  • Extensive experience transitioning from monolithic to service-oriented architecture in risk-sensitive environments, prioritizing stability over speed.
  • Skilled in engaging directly with critical issues and projects, maintaining a balance between hands-on contributions and strategic leadership.


Business Domain

  • Extensive expertise in understanding and managing the intricacies of fintech and payment systems domains.
  • Demonstrates a strong interest in mastering accounting methodologies, especially as they apply to tracking money movement in payment systems.
  • Proficient in partnering with finance and accounting teams to analyze their workflows, pinpoint inefficiencies, and suggest technical improvements for better efficiency, minimizing financial risks, and resolving variance challenges.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate closely with product and QA teams to prioritize realistic, ambitious quarterly OKRs while working within known constraints.
  • Experience working with product managers to create detailed user stories and acceptance criteria before development begins.
  • Expert at creating detailed technical documentation that translates complex solutions into clear, actionable tasks for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, encouraging constructive discussions to resolve differences and promote a collaborative work environment.


Additional Information

Location: Flexible/Remote (within the US)

Salary Range: $180,000 - 215,000 DOE

  • Base salary per year (paid semi-monthly)
